Shil nora is one of the oldest and important kitchen tool to grind and make paste of daily whole spices. It’s a hard and solid tool which is made of stone. It has two parts, the flat shaped big stone is called shil and a cylindrical shaped grinding stone is called nora in bengali culture.
It is worshiped as mother earth in many of the Indian states during their traditional wedding festivals. But the main use of this tool is to grind the spices and also many types of pulses or grains.
This grinding process is not an easy task for everyone, as it needs skills and practice to grind the spices by moving and forcing the cylindrical stone commonly known as nora through which the spices grinned.
It is said that the spices which are grinned on shil nora makes the foods more tasty than the powder spices. It is a traditional tool used since generations, but in the present time new modern technology machines making the work more easy but making people lazy, As using shil nora helps in physical exercise also.
But still it is popular in most of the homes mainly in rural areas. You should also keep one shil nora in your home as it may be helpful in the needful situation as it doesn’t need electricity.
